These signs may mean someone is at risk for suicide. Risk is greater if a behavior is new or has increased and it seems related to a painful event, loss or change.

  • Talking about wanting to die or wanting to kill themselves
  • Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live Talking about feeling trapped or in unbearable pain
  • Talking about being a burden to others
  • Withdrawing from family and friends
  • Saying goodbye to friends and family
  • Talking or thinking about death often
  • Displaying extreme mood swings
  • Making a plan or looking for ways to kill themselves such as searching for lethal methods online or buying a gun
  • Increased use of alcohol or drugs
  • Acting anxious or agitated, behaving recklessly
  • Changing eating or sleeping habits
  • Showing rage or talking about seeking revenge
  • Withdrawing or feeling isolated

North Country Community Mental Health

Provides adult counseling/therapy, community support services for persons with mental illness and child and family services to all residents of Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Kalkaska and Otsego counties. Crisis hotline available 24/7 at 1-877-470-4668.

Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan (WRCNM)

Provides a multitude of specialized, quality services for adults, children and families to improve their lives through personal growth, empowerment and lifelong learning. Northeast Michigan Community Mental Health Authority (NEMCMH)
